Chuppah

This chuppah launched me into making whisky barrel Judaica and was a work of love for my son and his fiancee. Preparing this took many weeks and the upright posts rest on partial whisky cask bases.

At approximately eye height on each column I have incorporated a small piece of wood from a whisky cask previously used to store burgundy wine in France. The resulting wood has the most beautiful purple colouration. When this wood is cut, it reveals that the wine travelled into the pores of the wood and the intensity of the colour reduces to zero over several millimetres. I have very few pieces of this wood and am looking forward to creating a small number of highly individual pieces with these few pieces. Any thoughts or suggestions on this would be most welcome.

With the agreement of the bride and groom, we are now looking at ways in which someone else can enjoy this unique chuppah for the benefit of charity. Expressions of interest would be particularly welcome as we consider how to pass this unique chuppah on to a new home.
